Recipe Ingredients for Bread Bowls

1 1/2 c water
2 c (350 g) whole wheat flour
1 1/4 c (175 g) white bread flour
1 1/2 T sugar
1 1/2 t salt
3 t active dry yeast

Recipe Directions for Bread Bowls

Add all ingredients to bread machine and process through first rise. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface, divide into 4 pieces and gently shape into balls without punching down. Place onto greased cookie sheet (or stoneware) and let rise about 1 hour until double in size. Brush with beaten egg and bake at 375 degrees for 25 - 35 minutes until golden brown. Let cool. Hollow out cooled bread like a pumpkin, reserving "lid" to put back on. Place in bowl and fill with stewed things like beef or lentil stew, stewed veggies or whatever your imagination suggests!
