Recipe Ingredients for Braised Red Cabbage with Apple and Red Wine

1 head, medium (about 5" dia) Cabbage, Red
3 medium apple Apples
40 grams Currants
1 tsp Sugars, Granulated
0.25 tsp Cinnamon, Ground
0.25 tsp Nutmeg, Ground
0.25 tsp Cloves, Ground
2 fl oz Wine, Table, Red

Recipe Directions for Braised Red Cabbage with Apple and Red Wine

  1. Original recipe called for sugar substitute.

  2. Thinly slice apples.

  3. Pre-heat oven to 300F. Discard outer leaves of the cabbage, cut into quarters, and remove the core. Shred the cabbage with a sharp knife. In a large bowl, mix apple slices, currants, sugar (or sugar substitute) and spices. Spray a large casserole dish with oil spray, and layer the cabbage and apple mixture alternatively, until both are used up. Mix together the red wine and cider vinegar, and pour over the cabbage-apple mixture.

  4. Place casserole dish in the oven with a tight lid, and baked 46 ? 40 minutes, stirring once or twice, until cabbage is tender.
