A creamy mix of cabbage, carrots and onion, served on top of boiled potatoes

Recipe Ingredients for Braised Creamy Cabbage

1/2 head cabbage
2 carrots
1/2 large onion
1 tsp canola oil
1 c bouillon
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour
3 Yukon gold potatoes

Recipe Directions for Braised Creamy Cabbage

  1. Bring a pot of water to boil. When boiling, add 3 Yukon Gold potatoes, cut into about 1-in. cubes. Bring back to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until soft, 10-15 min.

  2. Meanwhile, saute onion in 1-2 tsp canola oil and 12 TBSP butter until soft, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add cabbage and carrots and stir well.

  4. Add enough water to come within 1/2 an inch of the top of the vegetables, and a bullion cube. Cover and bring to a boil.

  5. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are soft, 10 minutes or so. Add the other 1/2 TBSP butter and cook a bit longer.

  6. Mix the flour with enough cold water to dissolve. Add slowly to cabbage until liquid is thickened to desired consistency. Add pepper to taste, as well as any other spices you'd like.

  7. Serve over boiled potatoes.
