New Orleans's style "Bourbon Street Beignets" prepared with Country Crock margarine, Splenda, and liquid eggs. At only 63 calories a doughnut. YUM!

Recipe Ingredients for Bourbon Street Beignets

1/4 c Warm Water
1 package active dry yeast
48 packet or 12 tsp or 1/4 C Splenda no calorie
2 T Country Crock
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c boiling water
1/2 c sour cream
12 tsp splenda
1/4 c Liquid Egg Product
4 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/2 c Oil
1/4 c powdered sugar

Recipe Directions for Bourbon Street Beignets

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.

  2. Place splenda, margarine, salt and hot water in bowl. Stir until shortening is melted and sugar is dissolved; cool to lukewarm.

  3. Add cream, egg, 3 cups flour and yeast to sugar-margarine mixture.

  4. Attach bowl and dough hook. Turn to speed "2" and mix 2 minutes.

  5. Add remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until dough clings to hook and cleans sides of bowl, about 5 minutes longer.

  6. Place dough on lightly floured board and roll into a 10x24 inch rectangle. Using a sharp knife, cut dough into 2-inch squares.

  7. In large heavy saucepan or deep fat fryer, heat oil to 360 degrees.

  8. Fry doughnuts, turning to brown on both sides, about 3 minutes.

  9. Drain on absorbent towels and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
