Recipe Ingredients for Boston Baked Beans

5 cups navy, pea or great northern beans, cooked
2 T. tomato paste
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 T. cider vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tsp. dry mustard
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. olive oil
1 tsp white sugar

Recipe Directions for Boston Baked Beans

  1. Preheat oven to 300.

  2. Mix vinegar, molasses, dry mustard, salt and tomato paste with a little cooking liquid. Layer beans, onions and sauce in pot. Pour oil on surface.

  3. Cover and bake for 90 minutes or till beans are becoming tender. Check every half hour for doneness, adding liquid as needed.

  4. Remove lid, add sugar and bake for additional 30 minutes until liquid is reduced and beans are quite tender. Watch to prevent excessive drying out.
