Recipe Ingredients for Borracho Beans

16 oz. black beans
1 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 jalapeno peppers, diced
16 oz. crushed tomatoes
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 1/2 tbsp. cumin
1 1/2 tbsp. paprika
1 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. basil
1 tbsp. salt
12 oz. beer

Recipe Directions for Borracho Beans

  1. In a large pot, saute the onion, garlic, and jalapeno peppers until the onion is translucent (about 4 minutes).

  2. Add beans (with liquid), tomatoes, and water and turn the heat up to High, then add the rest of the ingredients (add the beer last). Cook on high until it starts boiling, stirring frequently.

  3. Reduce flame to low, cover (leave the lid ajar to allow steam to escape), and cook for one hour, stirring occasionally.
