Forget steamed shrimp, these are boiled in spiced water. To make larger batches, you can use the prefilled Zatarain's bag (they contain about 6 servings).

Recipe Ingredients for Boiled Shrimp & Cocktail Sauce - Louisiana Style

2 servings Zatarain's crab boil
3 quarts water
1 lemon, quartered or sliced thickly
1 pound large shrimp
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated horseradish
1 dash Tabasco sauce, to taste

Recipe Directions for Boiled Shrimp & Cocktail Sauce - Louisiana Style

  1. Bring water to a boil.

  2. Place seasoning in a small tea bell or cheese cloth square tied with string, and add to water with lemon pieces. Boil for a couple of minutes to allow for seasoning to dissolve in water.

  3. Wash shrimp well. Add to water and cook ONLY UNTIL THEY BEGIN TO OPAQUE.

  4. Remove from heat and drain immediately. Do not overcook or leave in water, as they will continue cooking. Overcooked shrimp are tough!

  5. While shrimp cools, mix ketchup, lemon juice, horseradish, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Adjust to taste.

  6. Serves two, each with 1/2 pound shrimp and half of the cocktail sauce.
