Recipe Ingredients for Blackberry Cobbler for the holidays

2 1/2 cups shortening
5 c flour
1 t salt
1 egg
1 T vinegar
3/4 cup water
2 1/2 lbs blackberries
2 c sugar
4 T corn starch
1/4 c water

Recipe Directions for Blackberry Cobbler for the holidays

  1. First six ingredients are for the crust.

  2. Mix Crisco, flour, and salt until nice and crumbly.

  3. In a measuring cup, beat one egg, and add 1 T vinegar. Then add water to the measuring cup until it is full. It may not take 3/4 c water that was just an estimate.

  4. Mix well and roll out like pie crust.

  5. Line the bottom of the pan and cut off excess and keep for the top.

  6. Boil blackberries with sugar in just enough water to cover them. When they're soft, use cornstarch and water to thicken juice. It may not take the whole 4 T and 1/4 cup water.

  7. Pour into pie crust.

  8. Cover with remaining pie crust. Cut pretty little slits in the top and sprinkle with sugar.

  9. Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes or until crust is browned.
