Why are blackberries good for you?
Asked by anonymous on May 16, 2009 in Nutrition

Blackberries are an American super-food! They have a high ORAC score, a measure of antioxidants and other chemical substances that fight disease. They have more cancer-fighting ellagic acid than any other food and they are rich in anthocyanins, another powerful antioxidant, and their tannins have an astringent effect which lessen minor bleeding. Blackberries are also a natural source of salicylate, the active substance found in aspirin and they are an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fiber as well as vitamins C and B-complex and the minerals, magnesium, potassium, copper, and iron. Blackberries also have a low impact on blood sugar.
