My first attempt at using whoel wheat flour in the crust. I also had to use butter flavored shortening, so we'll see how it tastes!

Recipe Ingredients for Black and Blue Pie

2/3 cup shortening
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 tsp salt
5 tbsp water
3 cups blueberries
2 cups blackberries
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp corn starch
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup water
1/2 tbsp butter

Recipe Directions for Black and Blue Pie

  1. double pie crust.

  2. in small bowl combine flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

  3. add shortening and cut in until mixture is crumbled

  4. Sprinkle with vinegar.

  5. gradually add water and stir until mixture forms into a ball.

  6. cover and put in fridge for 30 minutes or until manageable.

  7. Filling

  8. in sauce pan mix sugar, salt, cinnamon, and corn starch.

  9. add berries and mix till all are coated.

  10. add water and cook over medium heat just until mixture begins to boil and remove

  11. pour mixture into one of the pie crusts and put other crust on top. cut slits in top for venting.

  12. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden.
