Beans cooked with chili (or cumin), garlic & onions. Serve over brown rice.

Recipe Ingredients for Black Beans with Chili or Cumin

1 lb. dried black beans
6 c. water
2 T. chili powder
2 cloves garlic
2 tsp bay leaf (or 2 whole)
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced

Recipe Directions for Black Beans with Chili or Cumin

  1. Place black beans in large pot

  2. Cover with water

  3. Bring to boil

  4. Peel and crush 2 garlic cloves and add to pot

  5. Add 2 bay leaves

  6. Add chili powder

  7. Lower heat and loosely cover pot

  8. Cook until beans are tender (at least one hour)

  9. Add onion and minced garlic

  10. Cook for 5 - 10 minutes

  11. Season to taste with salt, pepper and additional chili powder or cumin.
