Homemade biscuits with half whole wheat flour and half white flour.

Recipe Ingredients for Biscuits with whole wheat flour

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/3 cup milk, 2% fat

Recipe Directions for Biscuits with whole wheat flour

  1. In a bowl, stir together all dry ingredients.

  2. Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Make a well in the center; add milk all at once. Stir just till dough clings together.

  4. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough until it is not sticky.

  5. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 2-2 1/2 inch cutter.

  6. Place on baking sheet. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 - 12 minutes or till golden.
