Recipe Ingredients for Biscuits

2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Shortening
2/3 cup Milk

Recipe Directions for Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

  2. In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt.

  3. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse, even-sized crumbs.

  4. Make a well in the center. Add milk in all at once. Stir until the dough clings together.

  5. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough gently for 10-12 strokes.

  6. Roll or pat the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness.

  7. Transfer 10 biscuits to a baking sheet.

  8. Bake at 450 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
