Recipe Ingredients for Birthday Cake with Whipped Cream Frosting

480 g flour
10 g baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
5 g table salt
225 g unsalted butter, softened
400 g sugar
10 ml pure vanilla extract
4 large eggs, at room temperature
475 ml buttermilk, well-shaken
3 cups whipping cream
3 tsp cornstarch
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Recipe Directions for Birthday Cake with Whipped Cream Frosting

  2. Combine cornstarch, sugar, and 3/4 cup of the whipping cream in a small pot. Heat until just boiling and thickened, then remove into a small bowl. Let cool to room temperature. Add vanilla to cornstarch mixture. Beat the remaining cream in a large chilled bowl with chilled beaters. Once the beaters start to make an impression in the cream, add the cornstarch mixture in a steady stream. Beat until stiff peaks form. Frost cake.
