Great lasagne with an adaptation for diabetics. I can't find the Dreamfield's lasagne noodles where I live, so I just use whichever variety I have on hand.

Recipe Ingredients for Better Homes and Gardens Lasagne (1964 ver.)

1 lb sausage
1 T. chopped garlic
1 T. basil
1 1/2 t. salt
2 c. canned tomatoes
1 1/3 c. tomato paste
375 g. Dreamfields rotini
3 c. ricotta cheese
1/2 c. grated parmesan cheese
2 T. parsley
2 beaten eggs
1 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 lb. mozzarella cheese

Recipe Directions for Better Homes and Gardens Lasagne (1964 ver.)

  1. Brown meat and spoon off excess fat.

  2. Add salt, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, basil and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

  3. Cook noodles.

  4. Combine remaining ingredients except for the mozarella.

  5. Layer in a 10x14 baking pan 1/2 the noodles, then 1/2 of the ricotta mix, then half the mozzarella, and then half the sausage mixture.

  6. Repeat the layers.

  7. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.

  8. This freezes well, and can be made a day in advance and refrigerated. Allow an extra 15 minutes cooking time if cold.
