Recipe Ingredients for Better Butter Chicken

2 tbsp margarine
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
1 tbsp ginger root
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 tsp cinnamon
19 oz diced tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
620 g roasted chicken
1/3 cup half and half cream
1/4 cup light sour cream
1 tbsp cilantro

Recipe Directions for Better Butter Chicken

  1. Melt margarine in a deep, 10-inch skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add onions and garlic. Cook slowly, stirring often, until onions are tender, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add ginger root, chili powder, turmeric, and cinnamon. Cook one more minute.

  4. Add undrained tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for ten minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Add cut up chicken, cream and sour cream. Simmer, uncovered, for five more minutes.

  6. Remove from heat and stir in cilantro. Serve over hot rice, if desired.
