Make it a Sunday treat with chocolate chips dropped onto the batter after pouring onto the waffle maker (then pour a little more batter on top so they don't burn). If you're being good, leave out the sugar and top the waffles with unsweetened applesauce or frozen berries microwaved for a few seconds and mashed slightly.

Recipe Ingredients for Best Multigrain Waffles Ever

1/2 c Bob's red mill 7 grain hot cereal
1 1/2 c boiling water
2 eggs
1 3/4 c 1% milk
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp canola oil
2 tbsp applesauce
1 small banana, mashed
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 c White Whole Wheat Flour
1 c bread flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Best Multigrain Waffles Ever

  1. Place the 7 grain hot cereal into a large bowl. Pour boiling water over the top. Mix & let sit until water is absorbed and cereal is soft. You may need to add a bit more water if it doesn't soften enough.

  2. Meanwhile combine milk & lemon juice. Let sit for 5 minutes at least.

  3. In a medium bowl beat eggs slightly, add milk lemon mixture, oil, applesauce, mashed banana, sugar, vanilla, and hot cereal. Beat with fork until mixed.

  4. In large bowl, sift dry ingredients together. Pour in wet mixture and whisk until smooth.

  5. Pour a little more than 1/2 cup of batter onto greased waffle iron. Cook until desired fineness.
