This is a biscuit recipe that we make at the Bernhard Museum in Auburn, CA. They are addictive. One misfortune for all of us home cooks is that we bake it in a wood burning stove, so I am not able to provide a cooking time.

Recipe Ingredients for Bernhard Baking Powder Biscuits

1/4 cup Organic Whole Wheat Flour
0.75 cup All Purpose Flour
1 tsp Salt, Table
0.5 tsp Sugars, Granulated
2 tsp Baking Powder
2 tbsp Butter

Recipe Directions for Bernhard Baking Powder Biscuits

  1. In a large bowl, combine both flours, baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix together. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles small crumbs. Make a well in the center of the mix and pour in the buttermilk. Gently blend the ingredients until it clumps together.

  2. Place dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out the biscuits using a small biscuit cutter. Bake.
