Beets are sweet by nature but their greens can add a savoury bite. Use it as a hot salad, or as a side dish for a main course.

Recipe Ingredients for Beet greens

450 grams Beet Greens
1 1tsp Oil, Sesame
0.25 cup Onions
1 serving Garlic Cloves
0.75 cup (8 fl oz) Water
2.5 tsp Sugars, Granulated
0.5 oz Peppers, Hot Chili, Red
3 serving Rice Wine Vinegar

Recipe Directions for Beet greens

  1. Wash the greens thoroughly. Cut away woody bits of stems. Cut greens and non-woody stems into bite-sized pieces.

  2. In a large heavy pot heat oil on medium. Add onions and stems, cook for about 5 minutes until onions soften and begin to brown. Stir regularly.

  3. Stir in minced garlic. Add water, stir from the bottom of the pot. Add sugar and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil.

  4. Add greens. Toss. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for about 5 minutes (more if you want the greens to be softer). Stir in vinegar and serve.
