Someone I know drinks lots of beer in an evening - but only once a week. What is considered to be too much in one day?
There is no consensus for what constitutes too much to drink. Heavy for one person might not be heavy for another. For instance, alcohol is more potent for women and small people. In studies, “binge drinking” is defined as 5 or more drinks for a male and 4 or more drinks for a female in about two hours. Health experts, however, define “moderate drinking” (aka safe drinking) as no more than two drinks a day for men and one drink a day for women. A standard drink is 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits. Ultimately, intoxication depends on the breath alcohol test, which you can measure with a device at home.
