Beef in a creamy tomato, mushroom and onion sauce

Recipe Ingredients for Beef Stroganoff (Home Made)

500 g fillet or rump steak
75 g butter
1 med onion
250 g mushrooms
1 pepper
2/3 cup beef stock
2 tbs tomato paste
300 ml half and half
1 tsp cornflour

Recipe Directions for Beef Stroganoff (Home Made)

  1. Slice mushrooms & dice onions

  2. Remove any fat from meat

  3. Cut into 5mm x 10 cm strips

  4. Divide butter into 4 equal portions.

  5. Add 1 piece of butter to pan and fry meat in batches. Add some additional butter if necessary.

  6. Add remaining butter to pan and sauté onion and mushrooms

  7. Return meat to pan with pepper, water, stock cubes and tomato paste. Stir until combined.

  8. Bring to boil and simmer, covered, for 5 min.

  9. Combine sour cream and cornflour

  10. Gradually add to meat mixture, stirring until the mixture boils and thickens

  11. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes
