Excellent with short ribs, chuck steak, or any stewing meat. This is a one-pot meal. Add a salad if you wish.

Recipe Ingredients for Beef Stewed with Honey & Basil

1 kg blade steak
2/3 cup flour
3 tbsp olive oil
1 can beef consomme soup
2 onions, large
2/3 tbsp basil (dried)
3 tbsp honey
1/3 cup ketchup
5 potatoes, large
10 carrots

Recipe Directions for Beef Stewed with Honey & Basil

  1. Use an oven-proof dutch oven. On the stovetop, heat the oil in the dutch oven.

  2. Cut all the fat off the steak, and divide into serving-size chunks. Dredge in the flour. Fry in the heated oil until browned. If you wish, dust any leftover flour on top.

  3. Add the onions, chopped to your desired size.

  4. Add the consomme, basil, honey, and ketchup.

  5. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour.

  6. Meanwhile, peel potatoes and cut into serving-size chunks. Clean the carrots and cut into 3 to 4 inch lengths.

  7. Add the potatoes and carrots after the meat has cooked one hour. Make sure the potatoes and carrots are well-immersed in the liquid to moist cook.

  8. Cook with the carrots and potatoes until they are done, approximately 1 more hour.

  9. total cooking time about 2 hours.
