Recipe Ingredients for beef stew

1 pound stew beef
1 tsp olive oil
2 cups beef stock
16 baby carrots
4 stalks celery
16 small white potatoes
8 pearl onions
16 mushrooms
2 cups water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sage
1 tsp savory
1 tsp bay leaf

Recipe Directions for beef stew

  1. cut beef into bite size chunks

  2. heat olive oil over medium high heat in a skillet

  3. preserve skillet drippings

  4. brown the beef in the skillet and add to crockpot

  5. chop the carrots and celery into bite size pieces

  6. add the celery and carrots to the skillet and cook on medium high heat for a minute

  7. add celery and carrots to the crockpot

  8. add potatoes to the skillet and sautee for one minute

  9. add potatoes to the crockpot

  10. peel the pearl onions and add them to the skillet

  11. brown the onions for one minute, stirring often

  12. add onions to the crockpot

  13. deglase the skillet using 1 cup of water and add to crockpot

  14. add beef stock and remaining water to crock pot; add more water if needed to make sure all ingredients are covered

  15. half an hour before serving the stew, add the mushrooms
