Savory, German saurbraten style stew that isn't toohigh in calories for a portion that will fill you up. Celery is a nice addition which isn't in this recipe.

Recipe Ingredients for Beef Stew

1 1/2 lb beef
3 tbs Olive Oil
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups red wine vinegar
1 onion
1/2 tsp paprika
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
10 g bay leaves
3 carrots
324 grams potatoes
35 g ginger snaps

Recipe Directions for Beef Stew

  1. Brown off meat in oil.

  2. Add onion and garlic.

  3. When onion is translucent add remaining ingredients except water

  4. Stir and add water a half cup at a time.

  5. then add red wine vinegar

  6. Grind up ginger snaps to a fine powder

  7. remove a bit of liquid from pot and mix with ground ginger snaps to make a paste.

  8. Add a bit more liquid to thin paste and mix to even consistency.

  9. Add to pot and stir so evenly distributed.

  10. Cook for 1.5 hours and serve over egg noodles or thick slice of Rye or Pumpernickel bread.
