A savory, beef version, of Chicken Pot Pie that is (almost) made from scratch!

Recipe Ingredients for Beef Pot Pie

2/3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
2/3 cups All-Purpose Flour
1/2 cup Butter
1/2 teaspoon Salt
5 tablespoon Water
1 lb Ground Beef, pan-browned
1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1 dash Salt
1 dash Dried Minced Onions
1/2 cup Carrots, sliced
1/2 cup Celery, chopped
1/8 Onion, chopped
1 Garlic Clove, minced
1 cup Steamfresh Broccoli Cuts
2 medium Potatoes
1 dash Garlic Salt
1 cup Green Peas
1/2 cup Green Beans
1 can Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup

Recipe Directions for Beef Pot Pie

  1. Pie Crust: Cut 1/2 cup Butter into small chunks and add to whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. 'Cut' the butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender (or two knives) until mixture is coarse and butter is in pea-sized chunks. Slowly add the water, while stirring, until dough becomes a ball. Wrap and set aside (Note: This makes a fairly thin pie crust. For thicker crusts, add more flour and butter).

  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Beef: Brown in a pan with italian seasoning, salt and dried minced onions (or other preferred spices).

  4. Vegetables: In a pan sprayed with non-stick spray, saute sliced carrots for 1-2 minutes, then add celery, onions and garlic. Cook until tender, then add broccoli for 5-8 minutes.

  5. Clean potatoes and then boil until tender. Allow to cool, then cut into bite sized pieces. Sprinkle with garlic salt (optional).

  6. Cook peas and green beans in the same pot (for convenience sake) until tender.

  7. Combine beef and vegetables into a large mixing bowl and add a can of Condensed Cream of Mushroom soup. Stir until everything is (relatively) evenly coated and set aside.

  8. Lightly grease a 9" deep dish pie plate and divide your pie dough in half (one half should be slightly larger than the other).

  9. On a well floured surface, roll the pie doughs out (the larger piece of pie dough should be larger in circumference to accommodate the sides of the pie plate).

  10. Line the pie plate with the larger pieces of dough and fill with the beef and veggie mixture. Place the second dough on top.

  11. Seal the two pie doughs together by crimping/pinching the edges and cutting off the excess (this can be save for another pie, or thrown away). Also, remember to cut slits on top of the pie for ventilation.

  12. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

  13. Enjoy! :)
