A little Japanese twist on a popular Chinese dish with the addition of ginger and sesame oil. Serve with fluffy long-grain rice. Try brown basmati as a healthy and tasty alternative to white rice.

Recipe Ingredients for Beef with broccoli and mushrooms

1/2 lb Boneless Sirloin Steak
1 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1.5 Serving Sherry
1/2 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 lbs broccoli
1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoons cornstarch
8 ounces mushrooms, sliced thinly

Recipe Directions for Beef with broccoli and mushrooms

  1. Combine ginger, garlic, soy sauce, Sherry, and sesame oil, in a bowl.

  2. Cut steak into thin (about 1/16? thick) slices. Transfer to bowl with marinade. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 and up to 8 hours.

  3. Cut broccoli into (2? long, about 1? wide) spears. If you have stems, trim off outer fibrous layer. Halve lengthwise and cut into 1? pieces.

  4. Cook broccoli and mushrooms together in a 4 to 5 quart of boiling water seasoned with 1 teaspoons salt. Cook broccoli until crisp tender, 2 minutes, then drain well.

  5. Heat oil in a wok or large heavy skillet over medium high heat until it shimmers. Stir fry beef (scraped of excess marinade until it?s just no longer pink, about 2 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

  6. Add broccoli and mushrooms and stir fry until just heated through, 2 minutes more.

  7. Whisk cornstarch into marinade, add to wok along with beef and continue to stir fry until liquid boils and just thickens, about 1 minute more.

  8. Serve with steamed rice.
