Use beef cheeks or chuck instead of brisket.

Recipe Ingredients for Beef and Barley Stew

2 cups onion
430 g g Beef Brisket
1 1/2 cups carrot
5 garlic cloves
1 1/2 cup pearled barley
2 cup fat-free, less-sodium beef broth
400 g diced tomato
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
5 tsp,+crumbled bay leaf
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
4/5 cup red wine

Recipe Directions for Beef and Barley Stew

  1. Brown outside of meat using oil over High heat.

  2. Place Onion and garlic into slow cooker with 2 cups of water for 10 minutes.

  3. Add all other remaining ingredients with an extra 5 cups of water or stock.
