Recipe Ingredients for Beef Barley Soup

907 g chuck roast
1 large onion, diced
453 g canned tomatoes
4 cups barley
2 cups carrots, diced
2 cups celery, diced
6 cups water
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp salt
1 tbsp pepper
2 tbsp basil

Recipe Directions for Beef Barley Soup

  1. Start boiling barley in a separate pot in the interest of time.

  2. Cut beef into bitesized pieces. Brown the beef in a large pot or dutch oven.

  3. Add onions. Let onion cook down before adding next ingredients.

  4. Add seasonings.

  5. Add tomatoes (chopped) including all liquid.

  6. Add celery.

  7. Add carrots.

  8. Add partially cooked barley.

  9. Add water to fill pan.

  10. Cook until thickened.
