Can be made with either a ham bone or with ham pieces.

Recipe Ingredients for Bean soup, Homemade

2 cups dried beans
2 quarts water
1 1/3 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons butter
1 carrot
2 leeks
1 onion chopped
2 cups ham
2 tablespoons parsley
2 stalks celery
1 cup skim milk
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Recipe Directions for Bean soup, Homemade

Wash and soak beans, drain. Cover ham bone with water, add celery, carrot, onion, parsley and pepper and simmer several hours. Remove ham bone and cool. Add beans to broth and cook until tender. Saute additional carrot, celery and onion in butter, then add to beans and broth. Thin with milk.
