Used a dried bean soup mix and a ham bone plus 1 lb extra ham

Recipe Ingredients for Bean soup with ham

1 1/2 pounds dried beans
1 lb. ham
32 oz. stewed tomatoes
1/2 c. diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. chili powder

Recipe Directions for Bean soup with ham

  1. Cover beans with 2 quarts of water and soak overnight. That part is sound advise.

  2. Rinse the beans with cold water. Several times. There is a reason for this. It cuts down on flatulence problems later on. Rinsing the beans washes off a sugar molecule which our stomachs cannot digest. That is where bean toots come from. Who knew?

  3. Return beans to stock post and cover with 4 1/2 quarts fresh water. Also add meat at this point. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer for 2-2 1/2 hours.

  4. After simmer time is over, add 2 cans of stewed tomatoes, 1/2-1 c diced onion, 2 garlic cloves-minced, 1 tsp. chili powder (I added more than this), and salt and pepper to taste.

  5. After adding seasoning, simmer soup for another 20-30 minutes.
