No cheese needed. Sunflower seeds are less expensive than pine nuts and provide a good flavor for this pesto. Use as a spread on sandwiches or as a sauce for pasta and vegetables.

Recipe Ingredients for Basil Sunflower Seed Pesto with Lime

1 1/2 cup Basil, Fresh
5 tsp California Style Minced Garlic made from Fresh Garlic
3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 Lime (38 g) Juice (lime+yields)

Recipe Directions for Basil Sunflower Seed Pesto with Lime

Place all ingredients a small blender (or deep bowl if you're using a hand-blender). Blend until completely smooth. Makes approximately 1 cup. We had this with pasta and it gave enough for about 3 servings of well-coated noodles and veggies. You may want to double the recipe if you're cooking for a larger crowd. Works as a sauce or a spread for sandwiches and wraps.
