Basic waffle recipe that came with a Salton non-stick waffle iron - nice light and crispy waffle.

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Waffles (Belgian Size)

1 cup unbleached all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup skim milk
1 large egg, separated
1/2 tablespoon butter, melted

Recipe Directions for Basic Waffles (Belgian Size)

  1. Pre-heat waffle iron while preparing batter.

  2. Sift together all dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt and sugar)

  3. Measure out milk in a two cup measuring cup.

  4. Separate egg and place whites in a bowl suitable for beating with whisk, add egg yolk to milk.

  5. Blend egg yolk into milk to incorporate well, set aside.

  6. Melt butter if you have not yet done so.

  7. Beat egg white until stiff.

  8. Add milk mixture and butter to dry ingredients and blend thoroughly.

  9. Stir 1/4 of beaten egg white into batter to lighten it and then gently fold in the remaining egg white.

  10. Cook according to waffle iron instructions (every machine varies a little).

  11. You may cool on cooling rack and freeze in freezer bag/container to be warmed with toaster later.
