All purpose sauce for pasta, fish, and more!

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Tomato Sauce

28 ounce tomatoes, crushed
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
3 anchovies
1 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp sea salt
1 fresh ground pepper
1/8 cup red wine vinegar

Recipe Directions for Basic Tomato Sauce

  1. Preheat a medium saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Add anchovies and crushed red pepper and saute until anchovies melt into the olive oil. Add garlic and oregano, and saute 1 minute or so (be careful not to burn the garlic!).

  3. Add the crushed tomatoes. Stir and lightly season with sea salt and ground pepper.

  4. Simmer for 30 minutes.

  5. Add a dash of red wine vinegar to give it some twang.

  6. Season again with sea salt and pepper, if necessary.

  7. Stir and serve.
