This is my own recipe. It might be too salty for some, so you might want to add less salt initially and then add more if necessary. Note: the sugar is necessary or it will be too acidic!

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Tomato Sauce

800 g canned tomatoes in juice
500 g tomato puree
1 1/2 tsp olive oil
3/4 small onion, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tbsp dried basil
1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tbsp oregano

Recipe Directions for Basic Tomato Sauce

  1. Heat oil in saucepan on medium heat.

  2. Add onion and cook for 2 minutes.

  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.

  4. Add tomatoes and crush.

  5. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir.

  6. Turn heat to low and cook for at least an hour, stirring occasionally.
