Simple country-style sausage gravy for use over toast or biscuits.

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Sausage Gravy

1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons salted butter
2 cups skim milk
6 ounces pork sausage
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon tabasco
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce

Recipe Directions for Basic Sausage Gravy

  1. Cook the sausage, set aside.

  2. In the same pan, without removing the oil from cooking the sausage, melt the butter and make a roux. Cook for a couple minutes until bubbly but not brown. Pour in milk slowly, whisking constantly and increase heat slightly. Simmer a few minutes while stirring to thicken the sauce. Season to taste with worcestershire, tabasco, salt and pepper. Stir in cooked sausage, serve over toast.
