A basic Italian meat pasta sauce with Mushrooms. No herbs have been added as freezing herbs lessens their taste, but any Italian herbs can be added when cooking after defrosting.

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Mushroom Bolognaise

500 g lean beef
1 medium onion, sliced
14 g garlic, sliced 3 large cloves
270 g mushrooms, sliced
400 g tomatoes canned
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbls tomato puree
1/2 pepper
2 oz Water

Recipe Directions for Basic Mushroom Bolognaise

  1. Fry the garlic and onion in the olive oil until soft, put to one side.

  2. Fry the beef until just cooked, over cooking make it dry and hard.

  3. Add the onions, garlic, tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper to the beef and stir together.

  4. Add the puree and stir in.

  5. Stir in the mushrooms

  6. Only add the water if it is too stodgy, I put the water in the empty tomato can so you get the rest of the juice out.

  7. Allow it to simmer for a minimum of 20 minutes, the longer you leave it the more taste it will have as it marinates the meat. Matures nicely overnight.
