Recipe Ingredients for Basic Meat Loaf

1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
1/2 cup skim milk
2 lbs. extra lean ground beef
1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup parsley leaves, minced
1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 small onion, minced
1 small carrot, grated
1 teaspoon sage leaves, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Recipe Directions for Basic Meat Loaf

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Soak the bread crumbs in the milk until the milk is absorbed, about 5 minutes

  2. Mix together all ingredients. Shape the meat into a loaf in a baking pan. Bake 45 to 60 minutes, basting occasionally with the rendered pan juices. When done, Meat loaf will be lightly browned and firm, and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the loaf will read 160F.
