Basic bagel recipe, can add toppings

Recipe Ingredients for Basic Bagel

2 tbsp yeast
4 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup wheat flour
1 egg white, beaten with 2 tbsp water

Recipe Directions for Basic Bagel

  1. Mix yeast with 2 tbsp sugar, salt, 1 1/2 cups warm water.

  2. Add the rest of flour to form a stiff dough.

  3. knead dough until smooth and elastic, 5 minutes.

  4. Cover and let rise until doubled, 15-20 minutes.

  5. simmer 3 quarts water with 2 tbsp sugar. Prehead Oven to 450. Lightly butter baking sheet

  6. Divide dough into 12 pieces. Form each piece into a ball. Poke a finger through the center and shape into a ring. Cover the rings and let rise about 5 minutes.

  7. With slotted spoon, place bagels in simmering water. Poach them for 30 seconds per side. Drain on paper towel.

  8. Brush bagels with egg with. Bake for 25 minutes.
