Recipe Ingredients for Barbara's Sausage Gravy

1 lb. sausage, browned and drained
2 cups skim milk
4 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
2 beef bouillon cubes, crushed
1 tbsp. Smart Balance

Recipe Directions for Barbara's Sausage Gravy

  1. In large non-stick skillet brown and break up sausage. Cook thoroughly, turn out onto paper towels to drain. Using another paper towel, press down on sausage to squeeze out more fat.

  2. In a deep bowl, mix skim milk and flour, whisk until smooth.

  3. In a saucepan, melt Smart Balance, add crushed bouillon cubes, and incorporate well. Add milk flour mixture, heat on medium to medium-high heat, and stirring occasionally bring to a near boil. Turn down heat to medium-low and let simmer for one minute.

  4. Add drained sausage to white sauce mixture, and stir together.

  5. Serve over buttermilk biscuits, split in half.
