Moist, filling snack has an all-natural sweetness --> *very ripe* bananas, applesauce and honey. And no butter or oil! Without the vanilla, this was graded with an "A".

Recipe Ingredients for Banana Bars: Whole Wheat flour & oatmeal, 1% fat

2 2/3 cup whole wheat flour
2 cup oats, quick cooking
3 tbsp honey
3 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground cinnamon
4 bananas, mashed, very ripe
1/2 cup nonfat milk
2 egg whites
2 tbsp vanilla

Recipe Directions for Banana Bars: Whole Wheat flour & oatmeal, 1% fat

  1. In large bowl, stir together flour, oats, baking powder and cinnamon.

  2. Add honey, applesauce, bananas, milk, egg whites (or egg white substitute) and vanilla; beat until lightly mixed.

  3. Spread batter in a nonstick (or lightly oiled regular) 9x14" pan. Bake in a 350'F oven until cake is golden brown, just begins to pull from pan sides, and springs back when lightly touched in center and toothpick comes out clean, 35-40 minutes.

  4. Serve warm or cool, cut into about 2" squares. Freeze 1/2 of the whole batch, warm up in microwave for breakfast or a snack! Very filling, only 52 calories.
