Recipe Ingredients for Baked sauerkraut & pease

1 lb sauerkraut, rinsed
1 c peas, dried, whole
1 oz mushrooms, dried black
1 c sour cream
1 salt
1 pepper

Recipe Directions for Baked sauerkraut & pease

  1. Soak and cook peas. Cook mushrooms in 3c salted water about 1 hour, drain & strain broth through cheesecloth til *clear* - no grit. Rinse mushrooms and chop.

  2. Add the liquid, mushrooms, salt & pepper, and sour cream to the 'kraut. Simmer in a deep open pot 1 hour, stir often. The liquid should be much reduced.

  3. "Butter" a deep casserole, layer the kraut, peas, kraut, peas, etc. ending with peas. Pour the liquid over top.

  4. Bake 30 mins at 350.
