Granola is easy to customize to your own tastes. Read lots of recipes, and add and subtract to make your own "customized" cereal. This recipe has been measured into 1 oz portions (1/4 cup size), makes it easy to use as a topping with yogurt, fruit, etc.

Recipe Ingredients for Baked Multidirectional Granola

2 cup rolled oats
1 cup hazelnuts
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/8 cup flax seeds
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried apricots
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 tbsp water
1 tbsp cinnamon

Recipe Directions for Baked Multidirectional Granola

  1. Some notes: use unsweetened coconut; sub hazelnuts with whatever nuts you love, they just happen to be my favorite; sub raisins and dried apricots with figs, cherries, apples, etc, to create your own flavors; add other seasonings such as nutmeg, anise (nice with figs, for a mediterranean flavor), vanilla, almond extract (yummy with cherries), etc. to change the flavor. Cinnamon and nutmeg would be yummy with apple used as the fruit.

  2. Set oven to 300F.

  3. Mix the oats, nuts and grains into a large bowl.

  4. Add oil and honey (oil first to grease the cup for the honey), and 1 tablespoon water. My mom swears this improves the texture.

  5. Mix well, tossing with a large spoon. Spread in a large roasting pan.

  6. Bake 30 minutes, turning every 5 - 7 minutes.

  7. When it's golden, add it back to the mixing bowl, and toss with raisins and chopped fruit.

  8. Eat alone, with milk, or add it to yogurt, fresh fruit, etc.
