For even more creamy decadence, use milk (or cream) in place of some of the chicken broth -- not exactly low-cal low-fat. Adapted from Food Network; Paula Deen; Paula's Home Cooking; "Sunday Brunch"

Recipe Ingredients for Baked Garlic Cheese Grits

3 cups chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup regular grits
8 ounces Cheddar, cubed
1/4 cup milk
2 large eggs, beaten
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
4 ounces Cheddar, sharp white, grated

Recipe Directions for Baked Garlic Cheese Grits

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish.

  2. Bring the broth, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to a boil in a saucepan. Stir in the grits and whisk until completely combined. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the grits are thick, about 8 to 10 minutes.

  3. Add the cubed Cheddar and milk and stir. Gradually stir in the eggs and butter, stirring until all are combined.

  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Sprinkle with the white Cheddar and bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until set.
