Baked Falafel Recipe

Serving size is three generous sized falafels. Only 93 calories in one! See fat free tzatziki recipe to add as a dipping sauce. I eat mine over a green salad with cucumber, tomato and red onion tossed in red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Recipe Ingredients for Baked Falafel

1 3/4 cup dried chickpeas
2 cloves garlic, lightly crushed
1 small onion, quartered
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tsp cayenne
1 cup chopped parsley, cilantro and dill
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Recipe Directions for Baked Falafel

  1. Soak beans for 24 hours, beans will increase in size.

  2. Preheat oven to 400.

  3. Spray Siplat on baking sheet with olive oil.

  4. Reserve 2 tbsp of soaking liquid to moisten ingredients as needed.

  5. Process all ingredients except olive oil until somewhat smooth.

  6. Scoop with standard size ice cream scoop. Should make 14 or 15.

  7. Spray tops of each with olive oil.

  8. Bake for 7 minutes.

  9. Turn off oven, place under broiler until golden brown (about 5 minutes).
