Really good filling soup servered as a main dish.

Recipe Ingredients for Baked Bean and Molasses Soup

3 tbsps olive oil
1/2 medium onion chopped
5 tsp chili powder
1 1/2 tsp ground mustard
30 ounce stewed tomatoes
30 ounce white beans, drained
1/4 cup molasses
4 cups water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Recipe Directions for Baked Bean and Molasses Soup

  1. Heat oil in a lager saucepan, heat oil. Add onion can cook over medium-high heat, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes. Add Chili poweder and mustard and cook, stirring, 1 minute.

  2. Add tomatoes and their juice, beans, molasses, and 4 cups water. Bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat to meduim, and cook uncovered 8 minutes.

  3. Break up large chunks of tomatoes and mash about one-third of beans with the back of a spoon to thickin soup. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
