Modified from original a little bit to cut down on fat (hard to believe, but it's true). Serving is 1/2 cup.

Recipe Ingredients for Aunt Vi's Spaghetti Sauce

1/8 cup olive oil
1/4 cup butter
1 cup onions, chopped
3/4 lb. ground beef
1 oz. bacon (4 slices)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tbsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 oz. balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/2 tsp. dried sweet basil
1/2 tsp. fennel seeds
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
3 tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped
4 cups tomato puree
2 tbsp. tomato paste
1 carrot, finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped

Recipe Directions for Aunt Vi's Spaghetti Sauce

Saute onion in oil and butter. Brown ground beef and bacon, add garlic and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Add wine and season with red pepper, basil, fennel, oregano, chopped parsley. Add tomato puree, paste, celery and carrots. Simmer.
