Recipe Ingredients for Au Gratin Potatoes Healthier

2 pounds red potatoes, thin sliced
1 large onion, minced
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 tablespoon shallots, minced
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 cups gruyere cheese
1 cup fat free milk
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons salt
1 large onion, juilenne sliced
2 cups panko bread crumbs
1/2 cup parmesan cheese

Recipe Directions for Au Gratin Potatoes Healthier

  1. Boil potatoes for 30 minutes. Do not over boil they potatoes need to still be a touch firm so your not making mashed potatoes while your slicing them.

  2. Slice potatoes very thin and leave the skin on.

  3. Mince 1 onion, garlic, and shallots.

  4. In a small pot sweat onion, garlic, and shallot in 1/4 teaspoon olive oil until tender. Add milk and continue to cook until milk is reduce slightly. Add 1/2 cup panko and 1-1/2 cups gruyere to thicken milk slightly. Make sure the cheese is melted before continuing. Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Saute remain juilenne onions with the remain olive oil until crisp. Do not burn.

  6. In a deep casarole pan add potatoes in layers until all potatoes are added.

  7. Pour milk over top to make sure all potatoes are covered.

  8. In a bowl mix remaining panko and parmesan cheese.

  9. On top of the potatoes evenly layer the panko and cheese finished with the sauted onions.

  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until heated through.
