Recipe Ingredients for Artichokes

500 g artichokes
1 1/2 tbls extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbls garlic, minced

Recipe Directions for Artichokes

  1. trim stem off bottom of artichokes, trim top inch off artichokes. Using kitchen shears trim off the top pointed ends of the other leaves.

  2. With thumbs placed at center of the top of the artichoke, pry with thumbs from center to "loosen" the leaves. Rinse artichokes inside and out thoroughly

  3. fill to about 2 inches of water in sauce or stock pot (depending on the size of artichokes)

  4. Place rinsed artichokes into the water, stem(less) side down.

  5. sprinkle the garlic powder over chokes and into water.

  6. spread the minced garlic over chokes and into water.

  7. drizle olive oil over artichokes and into water.

  8. bring water to boiling. turn down to simmer and continue to cook at simmer for approx 45 minutes.

  9. Chokes are done when leaf can be removed easliy and very tender when scraped on upper teeth to remove the "flesh" only.

  10. Can be served with melted butter for "dipping" leaves (but only if you can afford the fat)
