Are apples sprayed with paraffin wax?
Asked by littlemanhannah on Aug 22, 2009
If they are what’s up with that? It can’t be good for your body.
Apples may be coated with carnauba wax, candelilla wax, beeswax, and/or shellac depending on what country you are in. Wax improves shine and is used to seal in moisture to extend the storage life. The wax is safe to eat but it makes it difficult to scrub off pesticides. To remove the wax, use a store-bought natural veggie wash or spray that fruit with a 50:50 water and vinegar mix, scrub, and then rinse with water after a few minutes.
