Recipe Ingredients for Apple Turnovers

4 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped into 1/2" cubes
2 T butter
3/4 c brown sugar
1 t cinnamon
1 T corn starch
1 T water
1 lb puff pastry sheets, thawed

Recipe Directions for Apple Turnovers

  1. Melt butter in skillet over medium heat.

  2. Place cubed apples in skillet and cook and stir for 2 minutes.

  3. Add brown sugar and cinnamon and cook and stir for another 2 minutes.

  4. Combine cornstarch with water and add to apples, mixing well for about a minute, until thickened.

  5. Remove from heat to cool slightly.

  6. Unfold puff pastry and cut into squares. Then cut larger squares into smaller squares.

  7. Spoon apple mixture into center of each square, fold corners to form a triangle and seal edges (with a bit of water on your finger).

  8. Place turnovers on baking sheet, leaving 1" between them, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with white sugar.

  9. Bake for 25 minutes in 400 degree oven.
